Featuring members of Fightstar, Gunship were formed after their original band went on hiatus in 2010. Heavily influenced by ’80s culture, including film, TV, video games, and cartoons, the band earned a reputation as pioneers of the synth-wave scene. Comprised of Fightstar’s Alex Westway and Dan Haigh, and Alex Gingell, the trio used 8-bit synths and neon artwork to conjure the VHS decade, as illustrated by their self-titled debut record which was released in 2015. The album was accompanied by an innovative music video for the single “Tech Noir,” on which they collaborated with John Carpenter, and it was directed by Lee Hardcastle. Three years later, Gunship returned with their sophomore effort, Dark All Day. The record featured a number of notable collaborators including Wil Weaton, Kat Von D, and saxophonist Tim Capello of Lost Boys Fame. ~ Bekki Bemrose
