Gunilla Söderström

Swedish opera singer (mezzo-soprano), born March 7, 1943 in Stockholm, died September 15, 2004.

She was educated at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm with, among others, Kerstin Thorborg. She made her debut in Joseph Haydn's opera Il mondo della luna (Life on the Moon) at Drottningholm's Castle Theater in 1969. After an engagement at Malmö City Theater, where she, among other things, made an interpretation of Pharaoh's daughter Amneris in Verdi's Aida, she was employed in 1973 at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Her roles include the title role in Bizet's Carmen, Eboli in Verdi's Don Carlos, Orpheus in Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice and Madame in Peter Bengtson's Virgos.

She was the daughter of the opera singer , sister of the opera director .
