Green Lung

A British heavy rock band with roots in doom, stoner, psych, and classic NWOBHM, London’s Green Lung combine occult-rock theatrics, pastoral prog-folk, and Sabbath-worthy heaviness into a witchy brew born of the past and the future. After releasing a pair of regionally successful albums, the band unveiled their major-label debut, 2023′s This Heathen Land.
Founded in 2017 and comprised of Joseph Guest (bass), Matt Wiseman (drums), Scott Black (guitar), Tom Templar (vocals), and John Wright (organ), the group inked a deal with German independent label Kosmic Artifactz ahead of the release of their debut EP, Free the Witch, in 2018. The acclaimed full-length Woodland Rites appeared the following year and caught the attention of Finnish doom label Svart, which enthusiastically added Green Lung to its roster. A performance at Bloodstock Open Air in 2021 heralded the release of Black Harvest, which also earned accolades within the heavy rock community. The band continued to refine their pagan-doom metal sound on 2023′s Nuclear-Blast-issued This Heathen Land, which looked to horror film soundtracks, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and regional folklore and mythology for inspiration. ~ James Christopher Monger
