Gina Alice

About this artist

Korean-German pianist Gina Alice Redlinger is best known as the wife of superstar Lang Lang, which unfortunately tends to overshadow her own considerable gifts. Equally at home in classical, crossover, and jazz, she released her own debut album, Wonderworld, in 2022.
Redlinger was born in 1994 in Wiesbaden, Germany, and began to learn piano at the age of four, studying with Irina Edelstein, a professor at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt. Gina went on to enroll at the academy, studying with Lev Natochenny and Bernhard Wetz; she also later took tuition with László Simon, Klaus Hellwig, and Gary Graffman. She was a graduate of the Hamburg University of Music. Gina began playing publicly at the age of eight, and that year became a sensation when she performed Haydn’s Keyboard Concerto No. 11 in D Major at a Steinway concert. She appeared on national television at the age of 13, playing Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in G Minor with the Berlin National Youth Symphony Orchestra. After giving her debut solo recital at the age of 15, she went on to play several times with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov.
Gina Alice first met Lang Lang in Berlin while in her early twenties. The pair got secretly engaged and were married in 2019 in Paris, with a lavish reception at the Palace of Versailles. After their wedding, she went to live with him in China; a keen linguist, she was fluent in German, Korean, English, French, and Chinese. In 2021, the couple announced the birth of their first child, a boy. Gina’s debut album, Wonderworld, released by Deutsche Grammophon in 2022, contained a range of relaxing music including Western and Chinese classical, jazz, film score pieces, and Korean traditional lullabies. ~ John D.
