Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly

English singer/guitarist Sam Duckworth is the primary member behind indie-emo folk affair Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, a moniker culled from a headline in a computer magazine about a Batman game. Raised equally on electronic, political folksingers, and post-hardcore, he began Get Cape in his hometown of Southend, Essex in 2004, following a stint fronting a hardcore punk band. At performances, Duckworth is often accompanied by an acoustic guitar and laptop, while his touring highlights include dates with José González and OK Go. He eventually moved from indie label Big Scary Monsters to major Atlantic, which released the debut full-length Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager in September 2006 (its U.S. release came in April of the following year). The album peaked at no. 26 on the U.K. chart. The follow-up, Searching for the Hows and Whys, released 18 months later, performed less well, however, and Duckworth was dropped by Atlantic. Signing to Cooking Vinyl, he released the eponymous third Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly album in 2010. The following year he released his debut album under his own name, The Mannequin. After two more Get Cape albums — 2012′s Maps and 2014′s London Royal (on tiny indie label Alcopop) — Duckworth announced he was retiring the moniker. After one more album for Alcopop under his own name, 2015′s Amazing Grace, he signed to punk label Xtra Mile. 2016 saw him unveil yet another alias, Recreations, for the album Baby Boomers 2. In 2018 he reactivated Get Cape for the album Young Adult. Mostly very different from the airy solo folktronica on which he had made his name, it saw him backed by a full live band for the first time. ~ Kenyon Hopkin & John D. Buchanan
