Fell is spearheaded by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Josh Wambecke, who had been part of the duo Phineas Gage. The group was formed when Wambecke built up a pile of four-track demo tapes that were considered unsuitable for Phineas Gage because of their use of electronics and drum machines. Fell’s self-titled 2006 debut sought to combine the feel of those demos with the guitars and vocals that were more characteristic of Phineas Gage, with Wambecke accompanied by bass/slide guitarist Mike Dewey and drummer Josh Cedillo. The Fell album is very psychedelic in feel, recalling the subdued mix of acid folk, acid rock, and electronics pioneered by bands such as Pink Floyd. ~ Richie Unterberger
