About this artist

Germany’s Fazer are an inventive jazz ensemble whose dynamic, cross-pollinated sound touches upon Chicago post-rock, Indian classical, electronic dub, and African and Latin traditions. They debuted in 2018 with Mara and have continued to expand their sound with 2019′s Nadi and 2022′s Plex.
Hailing from Munich, Fazer centers on the core trio of bassist Martin Brugger, guitarist Paul Brändle, and drummer Simon Popp. They initially met while studying jazz at the Academy for Music and Theater in Munich. Drawing upon the influence of modern creative jazz, as well as players like saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, Afro-beat legend Fela Kuti, and art-rock ensemble Can, they developed their combination of sounds. They eventually expanded the group, bringing on board trumpeter Matthias Lindermayr and drummer Sebastian Wolfgruber. In 2018, they released their debut album, Mara. A year later, they delivered Nadi, which found them recording in London with Ben Lamdin of Nostalgia 77. A third full-length, Plex, arrived in January 2022. ~ Matt Collar
