About this artist

Eric Lau is a London-based producer, as well as a DJ, who works within the realms of left-field hip-hop and R&B. Known more for collaborations and consistent albums — the latter a nuanced variety conducive to repeated listening — than he is big singles, Lau has issued several full-lengths of differing approaches with a natural stylistic evolution. Lau’s first album was New Territories (2008), a predominantly song-oriented set with vocals from the likes of Tawiah and Rahel, released on Ubiquity. After that, he moved to Kilawatt for Makin' Sound (2010), Quadrivium (2011), and One of Many (2013). The first two were strictly instrumental showcases for his dreamlike, sample-laced beats, and the latter saw him reunite with some of his earlier vocal collaborators, and also featured input from Georgia Anne Muldrow and Fatima. Lau reverted to instrumentals for the First Word release Examples (2017). In addition to some stray singles and EPs as a headliner, Lau’s discography includes work with Hil St. Soul, Homeboy Sandman, Guilty Simpson, and Yussef Kamaal, among others. Robert Glasper and Erykah Badu have also sought him in varying capacities. ~ Andy Kellman
