Engel Montaz

Born Angel Manuel Mota in the capital of the Dominican Republic on November 10, 1989, Engel Montaz's love for music was nurtured by his father's guitar and the rhythms of his island home. Music has always been a part of his life. Engel could sing before he could speak, and much of his childhood was spent on his father's lap listening to his old man sing to the melodic strummings of his guitar. Engel received musical training as a child as he learned to play the flute, but the opportunity to join the school's choir convinced him that there was no other instrument like his own voice. During his adolescence, he was not interested in training for sports or running the streets like much of the youths his age. Engel instead focused on training his voice, refusing to let himself be distracted by life in the capital.

In a city where the people survive on so little, Engel soon became aware of life's harsh realities. He knew that there was more to the world than the struggle to live, and he was determined to explore all that remained to be discovered. Blessed with the blood of a musician and the spirit of a dreamer, he sought out the bright lights of New York City in pursuit of opportunity. Engel settled into the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan where he made a living as a barber. Life in Washington Heights offered Engel many new experiences through which he learned to appreciate diversity. As a barber, he had the opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life. In exchange for the dialog and stories that his patrons shared with him, Engel would entertain them and the whole barbershop to covers of their favorite songs as they played on the radio. He would sing for anyone willing to listen, and the more he sang, the more he fell in love with music. Given the opportunity to experiment in the studio for the first time, Engel demonstrated his natural talent as a musician. Moving forward, He began to invest himself more in his music. His thoughts became poetry, and his poetry became lyrics. His passion for music burned brighter than ever, and he was now determined to expand his horizons and reach beyond the stars.

Although the Big Apple is the city where dreams come true, Engel felt that he needed to experience another change in his life. He left the fast-paced city life he loved for the sunny skies of Florida that reminded him so much of home. Here he established himself into the Dominican community of East Orlando. The laid back Florida lifestyle has allowed Engel the time to reflect on life and reevaluate his priorities. As Engel matured, so has his vision. He now recognizes music as a discipline requiring diligence, and dedicates himself to his development as an artist.

A helpless romantic, Engel Montaz makes music for the ladies. His lyrics are passionate and sensual, but tasteful, never tasteless. His voice seduces you and can carry you away from reality. As a reggaeton singer, Engel's Dominican culture and urban style manifests in his music to produce a sound that arouses the senses. Engel continues to evolve as an artist, and he hopes to one day be a songwriter and voice coach capable of helping other artists in their development. He takes in each new experience one day at a time, and for now, he is content with focusing on his music as a means of seeing the world that is before him.
