Dynazty are a Swedish melodic power-prog metal duo who pair classic NWOBHM sonic architecture with European-style progressive metal bombast. Formed in 2007, the band’s first two albums — Bring the Thunder (2009) and Knock You Down (2011) — offered a keyboardless sound. On 2012′s Sultans of Sin, guitarist Love Magnusson added keyboards and altered the band’s stylistic approach. Keyboards became a staple and were used as the compositional foundation on albums like 2014′s Renatus and 2016′s Titanic Mass. After signing with AFM, they released Firesign in 2018, which was universally lauded by the metal press. They recorded Dark Delight in late 2019, but it was released as the pandemic took full hold in 2020, leaving them unable to tour. After resuming live activities in 2021, they issued a handful of singles over the next two years. Dynazty signed with Nuclear Blast in early 2024 and recorded Game of Faces, which appeared in February 2025. Established by guitarists Love Magnusson and John Berg, the group eventually expanded into a five-piece with the additions of drummer Georg Härnsten Egg, bassist Joel Fox Apelgren, and powerhouse vocalist Nils Molin. Berg left in 2009 and was replaced by guitarist Mikael Lavér in 2012. Bassist Jonathan Olsson replaced Aplegren in 2013. 2009′s Bring the Thunder served as the band’s introduction, but it was 2011′s Knock You Down and 2012′s Sultans of Sin that caught the heavy metal community’s attention, with the latter LP arriving in the midst of the group’s almost-successful run on that year’s Melodifestivalen, Sweden’s annual Eurovision qualifying music competition. The group inked a deal with Spinefarm Records for 2013′s Renatus, which saw Dynazty leaning harder into the power side of the metal spectrum and featured a re-tooled lineup (Berg was replaced by new six-stringer Mikael Lavér, and Jonathan Olsson took over bass duties from Apelgren). Three years later the band returned with the aptly named Titanic Mass, which added symphonic elements to the mix. The band relocated to AFM Records for album number six, 2018′s hard-charging Firesign. Following a long international tour, Dynazty returned to the studio with backing vocalists Linnéa Vikström Egg and with recording and mixing engineer Jacob Hansen. They emerged with the 13-track The Dark Delight in April 2020, but were unable to tour due to the pandemic. They hit the road the following year. Across 2021 and ’22, they released no less than five singles, and Final Advent, their last AFM release. The critical reviews following the release were positive, but there were far less of them. They hit the road in support of the album and an abundance of reviews followed. After leaving AFM, Dynazty signed with Nuclear Blast in early 2024. They wrote and rehearsed the material live. They entered the studio in the fall and emerged with Game of Faces in February 2025. In addition to Vikström Egg, vocalist Elize Ryd also contributed to the sessions, which were mixed by Jens Bogren. ~ James Christopher Monger
