Chilean freestyle rapper and singer DrefQuila made a name for himself with his breakthrough 2017 track âA Fuego,â as well as releasing a number of albums including 2020âēs KUN.
Born and raised in Coquimbo, Chile, Claudio MontaÃąo Ceura (aka DrefQuila) grew up with a love of hip-hop after first hearing Movimiento Originalâs Cotidiano. It had a profound effect on him and Ceura started rapping at a young age; he became a regular on the freestyle rap scene. Over the next few years, he turned out to be one of Chileâs finest freestylers, competing on a national level while also self-releasing tracks. His debut album, the self-released and produced Valium, appeared in 2014, quickly followed by 2015âēs Cold and Amatista. The following year, the prolific DrefQuila dropped the single âA Fuego,â which instantly blew up. He also issued his fourth full-length, Giddy Up.
In 2018, after releasing his fifth album Trend, DrefQuila took the time to focus on his music career, retiring from freestyle competition and signing a deal with Warner Music. His debut for the label, AQUA, appeared that same year, while he also teamed up with Argentinian rapper Duki for the single âSin Culpa.â For his eighth album KUN, DrefQuila drafted in the likes of Tommy Boysen, Marlon Breeze, and MelyMel to collaborate on a collection of Latin trap cuts. ~ Rich Wilson
