Del McCoury

About this artist

Singer-guitarist Del McCoury's dedication to Traditional Bluegrass, manifested in an almost relentless touring and recording schedule, has made him one of the most popular artists of the genre. McCoury was a banjo player until he and his band were hired to back the legendary Bill Monroe in the early 1960s. McCoury switched to rhythm guitar and lead vocals while learning to lead a band straight from the source. His current band is a family affair, with sons Ronnie and Robbie on mandolin and banjo, respectively. The band mixes sizzling instrumental interplay with the kind of uncannily close harmonies that seem unique to those between family members.
