Born in 1980, the German-American violinist David Garrett is a performer of pop/classical crossover, known for his renditions of hits like Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Metallica's "Master of Puppets" and even Aerosmith and Run-DMC's "Walk This Way." A graduate of Juilliard and a former student of Itzhak Perlman, Garrett doesn't let his traditional grounding get in the way of his modernizing instincts: His recordings augment orchestral arrangements with rock instrumentation and electronic effects, but the focus is always on his pyrotechnic playing.
