About this artist

London-based producers and DJs Dark Sky synthesize a fairly broad spectrum of inspirations, including early drum’n’bass, dubstep, and U.K. garage. Formed in 2009 by then college students Carlo Anderson, Matt Benyayer, and Thomas Edwards, Dark Sky’s earliest releases were scattered across 2010 and 2011, issued on labels such as Black Acre and 50 Weapons. While the trio released additional 12″ singles for the likes of Black Acre, Mister Saturday Night, and Tectonic, they also worked on their proper debut album. Three years in the making, Imagin was released on Monkeytown — like 50 Weapons, a Modeselektor venture — in 2014. Though several tracks were evidently made with dancefloors in mind, it was more downtempo in nature when compared to the 12″ output, geared toward home listening. Extensive touring followed throughout Europe, highlighted by a performance at Glastonbury Festival 2015. At that point, they had remixed roughly a dozen tracks, including the xx’s “Crystalised,” Kelis’ “Brave,” and Maya Jane Coles’ “Something in the Air.” Benyayer and Edwards recorded Othona, the second Dark Sky full-length, as a duo. Monkeytown issued the album in 2017. ~ Andy Kellman
