Dante Bowe is one of the most prominent and impassioned voices in contemporary Christian and gospel music. The grandson of ministers — and a worship leader himself — the North Carolina-raised, Dallas-based Bowe released his first solo recordings in 2017 and soon raised his profile significantly through his affiliations with Bethel Music and Maverick City Music. In 2021, the singer and songwriter released the number seven Gospel album Circles, featuring the GMA Dove Award-winning “Joyful,” and contributed to Maverick City and Elevation Worship’s Grammy-winning Old Church Basement. He continued to hit the upper reaches of the Christian and Gospel charts with “The Healing,” headlined by Blanca, and “God Really Loves Us,” a collaboration with Crowder and MCM, before he co-founded TRUE Music, the outlet for a slew of 2023 singles incorporating contemporary African and Caribbean sounds.
Born in Rockingham, North Carolina, Dante Bowe grew up hearing a mix of sacred and secular music. He was raised in the Christian faith and at the age of 16 started attending church on his own. Devoting himself to ministry, he dropped out of high school (later earning a diploma) and for several years led the worship team Ultimate Call. His debut album, Son of a Father, gained notice in 2017 with the single “Potter and Friend,” a collaboration with Jesse Cline. Within two years, he joined Bethel Music, and either led or co-led three songs on the collective’s 2020 release Revival's in the Air, a number two hit on Billboard’s Christian Albums chart. Also in 2020, Bowe co-wrote four songs on Maverick City, Vol. 3, Pt. 1, including “Promises,” which earned him his first GMA Dove Award nomination.
After a handful of non-album singles into 2021, Bowe followed his debut full-length with Circles, which registered on the Gospel chart at number seven, and spawned “Joyous,” a number three Gospel single that would later win a Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year. Mere weeks after the release of Circles, Elevation Worship and Maverick City Music teamed up to offer Old Church Basement. With Bowe among the worship leaders, that album topped the Gospel and Christian charts and entered the Billboard 200 at number 30. At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, Old Church Basement won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. Bowe was nominated in five additional categories in the Christian and Gospel fields. He headlined two tours in 2022, and during the same year collaborated with Blanca (“The Healing”) and both Crowder and Maverick City Music (“God Really Loves Us”) on singles that respectively peaked at number nine on the Christian chart and topped the Gospel chart. In 2023, Bowe launched his TRUE Music label with the singles “Hide Me,” “Demons,” and “Wind Me Up.” ~ Andy Kellman
