About this artist

With a style self-described as “BDSM pop” and “gay workout music,” the alluring sound of COBRAH reflects a natural evolution of music originating from the LGBTQ+ community from an artist who makes shapeshifting an art form in itself on releases like her self-titled 2021 EP and 2023’s full-length debut SUCCUBUS. Clara Blom Christiensen was born in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1996 — a city that birthed such eclectic musicians as Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA and death metal band In Flames. In her teenage years, she gravitated toward the latter style, sneaking black outfits in her school bag to wear at clubs after hours. Having studied musical theater and flute performance, Christiensen honed her musical style while working by day as an elementary school teacher, an occupation she left only a few years into her recording career. COBRAH self-released her debut single, “IDFKA,” in 2018, and it was immediately noticed for its minimalist beats and a music video that picked up a Swedish Grammy nomination. A year later, she issued her debut EP ICON, which took aural and visual inspiration from BDSM wear and ballroom culture. COBRAH started to earn notice outside of Europe when, at a show in Stockholm, she was invited to perform on-stage at a Charli XCX concert, flanked by a posse of drag queens. After releasing the single “Debut” the same week COVID-19 lockdowns swept America in 2020, COBRAH laid low, re-emerging with a self-titled EP in 2021 that left little to the imagination on hypnotic tracks like “Good Puss” and “Gooey Fluid Girls.” She was named one of 100 notable emerging artists at the top of 2022. A remix of “Good Puss” appeared later that year, adding a verse from rapper CupcakKe. COBRAH released her debut full-length, SUCCUBUS, in late 2023, her first release in a deal with Atlantic Records. ~ Mike Duquette
