About this artist

Along with Suicide, Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire, Chrome were Industrial pioneers. They created challenging music driven by tape player and keyboard noises, Helios Creed's grinding guitar riffs, heavily effected vocals, and Damon Edge's simple, marching drums. They too never gained commercial success and acceptance, so their music tends to have a decidedly raw, untamed DIY feel and aesthetic. A fascination with space permeates their work, and at times their music bears more similarities to the Prog/Space Rock of Hawkwind than to their Industrial contemporaries; but at their noisiest or most ethereal, the duo never ceased to experiment with the way synths could enhance their assault (one can hear traces of what would become Synth Pop, especially the paranoid and futuristic music created by Gary Numan), along with tape manipulation and uninhibited imaginations.
