The output of singer, rapper, songwriter, and producer Caye tends to be mellow and free-spirited in nature, two qualities that are unsurprising given that he was named after Bob Marley & the Wailers’ 1978 album Kaya. Independently, the Santa Monica-based alternative pop artist broke through with “Coma” (2015), a woozy, pleasure-seeking track that would eventually exceed ten million streams. Following the EPs Shades (2016) and Pink Tree Paradise (2018), Caye has emphasized his singing voice, often putting his falsetto to full use on open-hearted projects such as Isa (2020) and We Love (2023). Originally from Boston, Caye Tittmann learned to play multiple instruments as a youngster. During high school, he got into production — including a phase during which he was inspired by commercial EDM — as well as singing and rapping. Although he excelled at tennis, he knew before graduation that he wanted to pursue music and relocated to Los Angeles to attend USC Thornton School of Music. Caye started building his discography with 2015′s “Coma” and continued the next year with a handful of additional tracks as well as the Shades EP. Another batch of singles followed in 2017, the year Caye also established his Pink Tree label. Pink Tree Paradise, his second EP, arrived in 2018, with Wiz Khalifa featured on “Easy.” Caye released one of his biggest singles in 2019 with the subtly motivational “Trust Fall” and that year also contributed to Alessia Cara’s This Summer. Over 2020 and 2021, he continued to split his time between solo and collaborative work, co-writing Meghan Trainor’s “Lie to Me,” producing material for Abhi the Nomad’s Abhi vs the Universe, and releasing the Isa EP. Singles throughout 2022 led to the February 2023 arrival of We Love, which gathered all of those tracks. ~ Andy Kellman
