German conductor, born July 3, 1880, in Danzig, Kingdom of Prussia (now Gdańsk, Poland) into a family of organ builders, died January 7, 1967, in Corseaux-sur-Vevey, Switzerland. He is most famous for his works with the Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic) and the Berliner Philharmoniker (Berlin Philharmonic).
