Based out of Massachusetts, BoyWithUke is the project of Charley Yang, a singer, songwriter, and producer armed with a ukulele and plenty of pop smarts. Inspired by the likes of Twenty One Pilots, Milky Chance, and Dominic Fike, Yang first rose to social media success anonymously, wearing an opaque face shield adorned with LED eyes to conceal his identity. After a pair of independent releases, he signed with Republic for 2022′s Serotonin Dreams, which charted around the world. Following the 2023 release of Lucid Dreams, Yang publicly revealed his face and name, then released the 2024 track “Can You Feel It?” Producing all of his songs himself at home on his media tablet, Yang’s confessional, lo-fi pop songs combined his trusty uke with pitched vocal harmonies and electronic beats. After the release of his 2021 debut album, Melatonin Dreams, he issued a steady string of singles, as well as the EP Trouvaille and the full-length Fever Dreams, the latter of which included the viral hit “Two Moons.” He found mainstream success with his 2021 single “Toxic,” which garnered millions of streams and caught the attention of Republic. The label quickly added BoyWithUke to its roster, and more hits followed in 2022, including “Long Drives” and the Blackbear-assisted “IDGAF.” Both cuts appeared on his third long-player, Serotonin Dreams. A three-song EP, Antisocial, appeared in early 2023, with the fourth and final installment of his Dreams series, Lucid Dreams, arriving in October. Just after its release, Yang revealed his face for the first time in a music video for the song “Homesick.” On a subsequent post on social media he also revealed his given name. The dynamic stand-alone single “Can You Feel It?” marked his first release of 2024. ~ James Christopher Monger
