Quick chat with Korra Obidi

My name is Korra Obidi, I am a Nigerian Princess, musician and professional dancer who recently moved to LA. Most of my music is influenced by my grandmothers and the music they made with a modern twist. I am so blessed and my music has come a long way. I am enjoying the process and astounded by the amount of people I've been able to touch through my music.

Tell us about your latest release: 'Flow'

My latest release is titled Flow. It's about self care and self love. How can you truly give your best to others if you don't give your best to yourself? As a mom, this resonated on so many levels as we tend to forget ourselves in the crevices of our lives. This song was inspired by Sofia Popkova. We recorded it in her bedroom, and had wine afterwards. It was awesome!

How did you distribute it?

I distributed with Distrokid which is my aggregator of choice. They reply to emails so fast … love them.

How did you promote it?

So far, the song has picked up organically through social media, I am super stoked.

The industry is changing, where do you see things going?

I strongly believe that after the pandemic, there will be a lot of money to be made for musicians who stay ready, are you ready? Lol

What's the most important thing missing from Songwhip?

Songwhip is lit ASF! Stumbled on you guys on Google search randomly! Best choice I ever made. I am stuck like Agbalumo now!

Which artist do you look up to the most and why?

Shakira, her career trajectory and her ability to balance it seamlessly with family is goals.

What artist tools/services can't you live without?

Distrokid, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Bandcamp.

What is your advice to other indie artists to help fund their work/produce music?

Do whatever you have to for now, within your value system that is, wait tables, clean butts, whatever, but never stop. It's so worth it!
