Combining classic hard rock, hip-hop, alternative rock, trap, and electro-pop, Blacklite District originated in 2013 in Americaâs plains. Led by vocalist, songwriter, guitarist, rapper, and producer Kyle Pfeiffer, the band issued two full-length efforts and a pair of EPs before becoming a full-on solo project for Pfeiffer in 2018 after finding mainstream success the year prior with the single âCold as Ice.â Two years later, under the pseudonym Blacklite District, Pfeiffer released a pair of dynamic long-players, Youâre Welcome and Instant // Concern.
Vocalist Roman James and guitarist Kyle Pfeiffer had been playing in different bands for years in South Dakotaâs Black Hills area, but in early 2011 they met producer Stephen Short, who signed them to a production deal. Blacklite District was born, and by the end of the year, the band had proof with the release of the EP This Is Where It Ends. In 2012 they relocated from South Dakota to Los Angeles, and then on to Florida after signing with Paramore and Creed manager Jeff Hansonâs Warner-affiliated imprint Silent Majority Group. In 2013 the label released the With Me Now EP, which the group supported on a nationwide tour with Saving Abel and Art of Dying. Their debut album, Worldwide Controversy, landed in 2014. Two years later the band returned with the more hip-hop- and pop-leaning To Whom It May Concern, which saw Pfeiffer taking over on lead vocals. 2017âēs Instant Gratification featured the viral hit âCold as Ice,â which prompted Pfeiffer to take Blacklite District on as a stage name, as Roman James was now operating, both as a collaborator and a solo artist, under the moniker R8eDR. 2020 saw the releases of Instant // Concern and Youâre Welcome, the latter of which spawned âFalling,â which became Blacklite Districtâs highest-charting single to date. Both LPs were issued by Pfeifferâs own AK19 Entertainment LLC. ~ James Christopher Monger
