About this artist

Berlin-based electronic musician and DJ Ben Böhmer produces finely tuned, melodic progressive house that takes inspiration from atmospheric indie rock and deep house, incorporating instrumental solos and melancholy vocals into his journey-like tracks. Striking a balance between emotional urgency and relaxed, transportive grooves, he released his heavily streamed debut full-length, Breathing, in 2019, and followed it with the yearning, euphoric Begin Again in 2021.
Born in Göttingen, Germany in 1994, Böhmer made his recording debut with the Black Pattern EP, two tracks of shimmering tech-house, in 2014, followed shortly by the single “Faltering.” His productions combined steady dance beats, rippling synth textures, and acoustic instruments such as saxophone, bass, and piano. After releasing the 2016 EP Der Blender, he launched his Ton Töpferei imprint with a digital compilation titled Mauerblumchen. The release included his track “Promise You,” which featured airy guitars, flutes, and wispy vocals. The song then appeared on the Promise You EP, and was subsequently remixed. Böhmer’s 2017 EP Submission arrived on AKA AKA & Thalstroem’s Sacrebleu label. His track “Flug & Fall” was included on Anjunadeep’s Explorations 04 compilation, and his first two EPs for the label, Morning Falls and Dive, arrived in 2018.
Böhmer’s debut full-length, Breathing, was released in 2019, and included appearances by Jan Blomqvist, Malou, Monolink, and others. Additionally, Böhmer released single collaborations with Fritz Kalkbrenner and Luttrell. Live from Printworks London and Breathing (Remixed) were both issued digitally in 2020, in addition to the Phases EP and singles “In Memoriam” and “Cappadocia.” “Weightless,” co-produced by Panama, was released by Future Classic in 2021. Begin Again, Böhmer’s second studio album for Anjunadeep, appeared in September. With guests including JONAH, lau.ra, and Gordi, the record’s songs were written while Böhmer was separated from his fiancée due to travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, and reflected the longing and uncertainty of his life at the time. ~ Paul Simpson
