Bappi Lahiri’s work was the epitome of modern Indian songwriting. His music thundered out of car radios and ghetto blasters wherever Indian popular music is heard. He established a large following through his soundtrack work for films such as Rock Dancer and Disco Dancer. He was remarkably prolific, and in 1986, he set a world record by recording 180 songs in a single year. Bappi Lahiri died on February 15, 2022 after contracting a lung infection; he was 69 years old. ~ Ken Hunt
