About this artist

With a low, smoky, and arresting voice, R&B singer/songwriter Baby Rose has channeled the emotionally voluminous power of great vocal talents like Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. Still in her early twenties when she began her solo music career, Rose brought a weathered and wise energy well beyond her years to her 2019 debut full-length, To Myself. Since appearing on Dreamville’s Grammy-nominated Revenge of the Dreamers III compilation in 2020, Rose has released a deluxe edition of To Myself and the single “Go” (2022), the latter of which is the first fruit of an association with the Secretly Canadian label.
Baby Rose was born Jasmine Rose Wilson in Washington, D.C., and grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Raised on a wide variety of musical genres, she was both singing and writing poetry at a young age. A relative gifted her a piano for her ninth birthday, and by the age of 12, her voice had developed to the point where a family friend took notice and encouraged her to take her talent into the recording studio. By then she and her family had relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina, where she participated in talent competitions and built toward a life in music throughout her teenage years.
Baby Rose eventually moved to Atlanta to focus even more intensely on her music. She teamed up with producer Casey Graham for her debut EP, 2017′s From Dusk ’Til Dawn, and was recognized by established stars like SZA and J. Cole as an up-and-coming talent. In 2019, shortly after touring in direct support of Ari Lennox, Rose appeared alongside Lennox and Bas on the Dreamville Records compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 upon its release that July. A month later, the Human Re Sources label delivered Baby Rose’s first album, To Myself. Revenge of the Dreamers III was nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Rap Album that November, and Rose embarked on headlining tours of the U.S. and Europe in early 2020. Subsequently landing a deal with Secretly Canadian, she returned in 2022 with the single “Go,” backed by “Fight Club,” a collaboration with Georgia Anne Muldrow. ~ Fred Thomas
