About this artist

Avara is an R&B/alternative R&B producer and artist based in Austin, TX. NYC born and Atlanta raised, Avara’s passion for music has continued expanding through childhood into adulthood, ultimately evoking her innate ability and desire to sonically capture her perception of the world and share it with others. She recalls the profound experience of listening to a Taylor Swift CD in fourth grade and was stricken by how deeply the songwriting resonated with her; that moment planted the seed that would eventually blossom into a fresh, unique, empowering artist. Avara’s experience as an Indian-American woman permeates her music, not only paying homage to her identity, but encouraging others with similar experiences to recognize their intrinsic value in spite of the hardships that may be imposed upon them.

“Because of the hurdles I faced, I now know that I never want another young, brown girl to feel shame or embarrassment for their culture. I want my music to speak to them, to let them know they are not alone, that they are loved and enough as they are.” - Avara

Avara introduces a rich, mature sound on her singles dropped in 2023. She demonstrates her capacity to flourish in contemporary R&B and soul tracks with her emotive, textured vocals, cascading runs, and fearlessly diving deep into intimate subject matter; she also showcases her strength and creativity as a producer, a key element that allows her to fully immerse herself in every step of the creative process. Influence from artists like SZA and Jhene Aiko are ever present in the foundation of Avara’s artistry; from her ability to translate her womanhood, spirituality, and creativity into her music, to her honeyed tone and masterful runs, she creates music that stands up to some of the world’s most seasoned songwriters and performers. Avara’s music is a beacon of authenticity and vulnerability that not only embraces the messy nature of being human, but also aims to heal and affirm listeners when they need a shoulder to cry on.
