About this artist

Acting like a one-man version of A$AP Mob, Toronto rapper Sean Leon is also a visual artist, producer, and director, and utilizes all of the above in the presentation of his music. He initially garnered attention for his early concept-driven mixtapes, 2013′s Ninelevenne, the Tragedy and 2014′s Narcissus, The Drowning of Ego. Along with collaborations with Caesar and Kanye West, he has continued to expand his solo work, releasing full-length projects like 2017′s I Think You’ve Gone Mad (Or the Sins of the Father), 2021′s God’s Algorithm, and 2022′s Herd Immunity.
Born and raised in Ajax, Ontario, Leon kicked off his rap career in 2013 with the mixtape Ninelevenne, the Tragedy, which, in the style of a concept album, told the story of an Icarus-like character. Another mixtape, Narcissus, The Drowning of Ego, followed in 2014, then Leon turned strictly to singles and online uploads for the next two years. In 2016, he released “Matthew in the Middle” featuring fellow Canadian rapper Caesar. He also contributed to the title track to Caesar’s Grammy-nominated 2017 debut.
In February of that year, Leon returned to the album format with the release of I Think You’ve Gone Mad (Or the Sins of the Father). He quickly followed that November with a fourth full-length, C.C.W.M.T.T., which was accompanied by an audio film. Another full-length project, Sean Leon (The Death Of), arrived in 2018. Around this time, he caught the attention of Kanye West, eventually contributing to 2019′s Jesus Is King and 2021′s Donda. Both Leon and Caesar also garnered co-writing credits on Justin Bieber’s 2021 single “Peaches.” More projects followed from Leon, including God’s Algorithm in 2021, and King & Sufferin and Herd Immunity, both in 2022. ~ David Jeffries
