Merging the normally disparate worlds of punishing heavy metal and Christian ideology, Phinehas is a Christian metal band based out of La Mirada, California. Emerging in 2010, the group found crossover success with the release of their third full-length effort, Till the End, which appeared on both the CCM and mainstream rock charts. Subsequent outings like Dark Flag (2017) and The Fire Itself (2021) continued to push at the boundaries of hardcore punk, extreme metal, and Christian rock.
After making their full-length debut in 2010 with Thegodmachine, Phinehas set out on the road with a touring ethic almost as relentless as their intense sound. The band had a particularly busy release schedule in 2013, with the EP The Bridge Between arriving early in the year, followed by a second full-length, The Last Word Is Yours to Speak, in the summer. It proved to be a breakthrough for Phinehas, reaching number 41 on Billboard’s Christian Albums chart and hitting the Heatseekers chart as well. A move to Warner-distributed Artery Records preceded 2015′s Till the End, the band’s third LP. Showing a softer side, Phinehas self-released the acoustic EP Fight Through the Night in 2016, then signed with metal-oriented Christian label Solid State Records for 2017′s acclaimed concept LP Dark Flag. Early 2021 marked the arrival of the unrelenting single “In the Night,” ahead of the arrival of their fifth full-length effort, Fire Itself. ~ Gregory Heaney
