About this artist

Magic Sword is a fantasy synthwave trio whose members, true identities unknown, don black cloaks and neon masks. Producing retro-futuristic electronic music with arpeggio-heavy dance beats and wailing guitar and keyboard solos, the band’s recordings, such as 2020′s Endless, detail the saga of the Keeper of the Magic Sword on his quest against the evil forces of the Dark One.
The Boise-based group formed in 2013, initially consisting of the Keeper of the Magic Sword (keyboards) and the Seer of All Truths (guitar), and were later joined by a drummer known as the Weaver of All Hearts and Souls. Their first album, Volume 1, was self-released in 2013, and quickly sold out of its first pressing as the duo began creating a buzz in the synthwave world with their theatrical performances. Tender Loving Empire reissued the record on vinyl, packaged with a comic book by illustrator Shay Plummer. Two of the album’s tracks were included on the soundtrack to shooter game Hotline Miami 2, furthering the group’s fan base, and they toured with synthwave acts like Carpenter Brut and Dance with the Dead. Additionally, they opened for the Orb in Portland, Oregon, in 2016, and performed with members of the Boise Philharmonic at the city’s Treefort Music Fest the following year. The second volume of the Magic Sword saga was presented in three chapters. The first, Legend EP, appeared in 2016, issued by Swedish label Size Records. Mini-album Awakening, the second chapter, was released by Joyful Noise in 2019. The same label issued the third and final chapter, the full-length Endless, in 2020. As with the first volume, all releases were packaged with comic books. Throughout 2020 and 2021, various remixes of tracks from Endless were released one by one, and in March of 2022 Magic Sword teamed with Metavari for new song “Dressed for Fantasy”, part of the two track EP The Weapon and the Soul. In October of that year the band released the dramatic new song “There Is Still Good in You.” ~ Paul Simpson
