About this artist

German electronic musician and visual artist Grischa Lichtenberger constructs harsh, jagged sound sculptures that are often sourced from field recordings, turning everyday environmental sounds into sharpened digital fragments and rearranging them with pinpoint precision. Like many of his Raster-Noton labelmates, Lichtenberger’s aggressive audio creations are twisted into mutated rhythms that are informed by techno and electro, even if they’re too abstract and scattered to dance to. His ambitious 2016 release Spielraum/Allgegenwart/Strahlung represents some of his most refined, pristinely crafted work.
Lichtenberger debuted in 2009 with the abrasive, jarring ~Treibgut EP, released as part of Raster-Noton’s Unun 12″ series. Two years later, Spanish label Semantica Records issued Lichtenberger’s Graviton - Cx (Rigid Transmission) EP. Raster-Noton released his debut full-length album, And IV (Inertia), in 2013. La Demeure; Il y a Péril en la Demeure followed on the same label in 2015. In 2016, Lichtenberger and Jesse Osborne-Lanthier collaborated on the full-length Conversations sur Lettres Mortes, issued by Cosmo Rhythmatic. Also, Raster-Noton released Lichtenberger’s triple LP Spielraum/Allgegenwart/Strahlung. Re: Phgrp, Lichtenberger’s reworking of Consequences by jazz group Philipp Gropper's Philm, was issued by Raster in 2019. Solo full-length Kamilhan, il y a péril en la demeure appeared in 2020. ~ Paul Simpson
