About this artist

Seattle’s Great Grandpa merge fuzzy grunge pop with intricate, sometimes ambitious arrangements and strong melodic sensibility. Their 2017 debut, Plastic Cough, helped win them a national audience and, after several national tours, they followed it up in 2019 with the more expansive and stylistically varied Four of Arrows.
Alex Menne (vocals), Pat Goodwin (guitar, vocals), Carrie Goodwin (bass, vocals), Dylan Hanwright (bass, vocals), and Cam Laflam (drums, vocals) were all active in other Seattle-based projects before joining forces as Great Grandpa at the end of 2014. They quickly got to work and by March of the next year, they’d released their first EP, Can Opener, on the Broken World Media label. Their full-length debut, Plastic Cough, arrived two years later, this time on Brooklyn-based Double Double Whammy Records. An altogether more collaborative set, the album featured writing from multiple bandmembers and displayed a range beyond their more obvious ’90s grunge influences. Following a bout of hard touring, Great Grandpa’s members soon found themselves living in different parts of the country. This dislocation of the unit played a role in the more complex and introspective sounds on their second record, Four of Arrows, in 2019. ~ Timothy Monger
