DJ Gregory

About this artist

An early ambassador of House music to the French dance community, Parisian DJ Gregory (Gregory Darsa) has been described as “the cherished DJ of all the soulful dance floors of the capital”. Like many before him, Gregory moved to New York to master the history and techniques behind House, before returning to Paris to start a rare-Vinyl import business, which lead him to fellow trainspotters DJ Deep and Alex from Tokyo and their ‘FG’ radio show. As their on-air popularity grew, so did the live bookings, and soon Gregory was holding court at Folies Pigalles alongside Dimitri from Paris and Daft Punk. Production work followed with the release of hit remix “Sunshine People” under the name Fantom with Julien Jabre. One of the original members of Bob Sinclar’s ‘Africanism’ Project, it is no surprise that Gregory uses less of the filtered happy-house sound of his contemporaries, preferring to blend African Rhythms and vocal loops into a heavy on the cymbals retro-disco colonial French House sound that is both catchy and funky. “Tropical Soundclash” (2002) showcases this sound perfectly, as does the club anthem “Elle” (2003).
