Devvon Terrell’s zealous, pop-oriented mix of contemporary hip-hop and R&B reflects inspirations such as Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, and Ne-Yo. Active since the early 2010s, the singer and rapper began to grow an online following with partially rewritten cover versions, and has steadily built a discography of independent releases based on original material. Weird Sexy Cool (2015), the Futuristic collaboration Coast 2 Coast (also 2015), Weird Nights (2017), and Weird Nights: The Intermission (2018) are among his full-length projects.
Before Terrell became active with music, the life-long Brooklyn native earned a degree in computer information systems. Unsatisfied with his career prospects, he opted to study audio production and worked to save enough money to purchase a recording studio. He began to grow a fan base through social media platforms in the early 2010s by uploading personal twists on current hits. After a handful of mixtapes and short-form releases including 2014′s The Living Weirdo_o, Terrell made his proper full-length debut in 2015 with Weird Sexy Cool. Coast 2 Coast, a collaboration with Futuristic, was issued toward the end of that year and reached number 12 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Concise solo projects, all of which Terrell mixed and mastered, continued to arrive on an annual basis, with The Renaissance, Weird Nights, and Weird Nights: The Intermission following from 2016 through 2018. All the while, Terrell continued to appeal to his earliest fans with additional uploaded cover versions, and he also released non-album commercial singles including “N.F.L.,” “Take Me Serious,” and “Die on This Hill.” ~ Andy Kellman
