About this artist

Australia’s Chase Atlantic make sensuous pop that straddles the line between emo-electronic, SoundCloud rap, and contemporary R&B. The trio first emerged with their viral 2014 single “Friends” before releasing their full-length debut, 2017′s eponymous Chase Atlantic. Their sophomore album, 2018′s Phases, gained wider attention, landing on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and earning them a slot on the Warped Tour. They have continued to hone their hypnotic sound, as on 2021′s Beauty in Death.
Raised in Cairns, Australia, brothers Mitchel and Clinton Cave grew up studying jazz and classical music. While still in his teens, Mitchel Cave joined the boy band What About Tonight, where he first met singer/guitarist Christian Anthony. The group had a brief moment in the spotlight competing on The X Factor Australia, but ultimately broke up. Over the next few years, the Cave brothers kept making music, releasing tracks via their YouTube channel before reconnecting with Anthony and forming Chase Atlantic in 2011. The trio began reworking their sound, mixing elements of contemporary hip-hop and trap production with hooky pop and emo-rock influences. In 2014, they issued the Dalliance EP, which was followed by 2015′s Nostalgia, the latter of which included the viral hit “Friends.”
The success of these early releases caught the attention of Good Charlotte’s Joel and Benji Madden, who signed Chase Atlantic to their MDDN development company. The band then signed with Warner Bros. and issued three EPs, all of which led up to the release of their full-length debut, 2017′s eponymously titled Chase Atlantic. Tours followed in the United States and Australia, as did a slot on the 2018 Warped Tour and appearances at Bonnaroo and the Reading/Leeds Festival. In 2019, they issued their sophomore album, Phases, which included the singles “Her” and “Love Is (Not) Easy.” It landed at number 24 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and cracked the Top Ten of the Heatseekers chart.
Chase Atlantic spent much of 2018 and 2019 on tour before settling back in Los Angeles to work on material. With their regular studio — the Madden Brothers-owned MDDN — temporarily shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they largely recorded on their own at home. In March 2021, the band returned with their third studio album, the Billboard-charting Beauty in Death. The follow-up singles “OHMAMI” and “ESCORT” were later included on a deluxe version of Beauty in Death that appeared in 2022. ~ Matt Collar
