An R&B vocalist originally from Houston, Brooke Valentine got her start as a member of the girl group Best Kept Secret. After working with them for several years, she relocated to L.A., went solo and really hit the scene with her breakout single "Girlfight" at the beginning of 2005. With a slick voice and production/cameo help from ATL figurehead Lil Jon, her sound fit perfectly into the "Crunk&B" soundscape of new artists like Ciara. Her debut album Chain Letter followed shortly thereafter, a solid collection of rap-flavored,
club-centric jams in the same vein as similar offerings from Beyonce or Mariah
Carey.
