About this artist

Some guys have all the luck. Okay, Luhrmann is more than lucky -- he's a vibrant and energetic film and theater director whose works, including William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and Strictly Ballroom, have gained him substantial commercial and critical success. As a composer and a songwriter, he falls a little under par simply because he isn't one. Nonetheless he's quite wise at arranging his films' soundtracks for maximum impact, such as the dance version of Strauss' "Blue Danube" for Ballroom. He's also credited with the surprise 1999 hit, "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)," despite the fact that he didn't write or sing the song (it was a remix of a song written for Romeo). It just goes to show that some people are far from star-crossed.
