About this artist

Baka Not Nice, aka Baka, is the rap alias of Toronto native and Drake associate Travis Savoury. Confrontational with a purposefully choppy flow and sing-songy cadences, he debuted in 2017 with the charting single “Live Up to My Name,” featured on his subsequent first EP, 4Milli. Baka’s output since then has included the three-track effort no long talk. (2019) and the post-hiatus single “Body & a Face” (2022).
Before he made his solo debut, Baka was part of Drake’s security detail, and also appeared on his employer’s releases, including Nothing Was the Same (“From Time”), Views (“Hype”), and More Life (“Free Smoke,” “Gyalchester”). Shortly after his deal with Drake’s Warner-distributed OVO Sound label was publicized in June 2017, Baka released the boastful single “Live Up to My Name.” A chiming, low-profile production, the track made reference to the rapper’s past life (“I went to jail the day they released Men in Black/When I came out, Timberlake was bringing sexy back”) and reached number 77 on the Canadian pop chart. Two more singles, “No Beam” and the boisterous “Junior High,” arrived in 2018 with the latter also appearing on Baka’s 4Milli EP. The next year, Baka offered no long talk., a shorter EP containing the Giggs collaboration “My Town,” and another cut, “Up.” He took a break from recording and returned in 2022 with “Body & a Face.” ~ Andy Kellman
