Antonio Jose is a charting Spanish pop/rock singer who has been working professionally since the age of ten. Born in Cordoba’s Palma del Rio, he began singing as a toddler. As a boy he divided his time between football and music. With the encouragement of his mother he began entering singing contests. In 2003, at age eight, he won first place in Veo Veo, sponsored by the Teresa Rabal Foundation. His prize was a six-month scholarship to study voice at a regional academy. In 2005, he represented Spain in the Junior Eurovision contest with the song “Te Traigo Flores,” and finished in second place. His debut album of the same title was issued by Vale Music that same year. Despite active promotion and appearances on television and radio, the recording languished, a second album went unreleased. Determined, Jose went back to playing small shows and festivals and working on his music. He also entered various contests. In 2015, he was a contestant on the third season of Spain’s edition of The Voice. He won the competition and was awarded a recording contract with Universal Music. His debut album for the label, El Viaje, landed in Spain’s Top 20, and its single, “El Arte de Vivir,” reached number eight. After some 60 shows in support of the album, the singer returned to the studio and began co-writing with a host of veterans. In April 2016, Jose issued the pre-release single “Contigo,” which reached number six. His next album, Senti2, was issued in August and entered the Spanish charts at number one. ~ Thom Jurek
