Another Michael

Another Michael’s laid-back, dreamy brand of indie folk-rock is partly indebted to Neil Young and reminiscent of contemporaries like Whitney and Fleet Foxes. Following a debut EP in 2015, the project issued its full-length debut, New Music and Big Pop, in 2021. They mixed their core jangly sound with occasional digressions into R&B and AM pop on the more ambitious follow-up, 2023′s Wishes to Fulfill.
Established in Albany, New York, in 2015, Another Michael began as the solo outlet of angelic-voiced singer and multi-instrumentalist Michael Doherty, who recorded the project’s debut EP, 2016′s Sans, on his own. By the time Doherty relocated to West Philadelphia in 2017, Another Michael had grown to include multi-instrumentalists Nick Sebastiano and Alenni Davis. Signing with Topshelf Records, they issued the EP Land in mid-2018 and had a minor streaming hit with the soul-tinged ballad “About.” Further expanding and refining their sound, they followed Land with their debut album, New Music and Big Pop. Produced by Sebastiano and then-housemate Scoops Dardaris, it arrived on Topshelf and Run for Cover Records in early 2021. Run for Cover again issued the band’s sophomore LP, Wishes to Fulfill, in September 2023. With production credited again to Sebastiano and Dardaris as well as the band, which had expanded to include another multi-instrumentalist, Jacob Crofoot, it strayed into classic rock and woozy R&B while staying anchored to their folk-rock core. ~ Marcy Donelson
