About this artist

Nicolas Dupuis, the Canadian musician better known as Anomalie, makes complex yet grooving jazz-funk which incorporates hip-hop, EDM, and classical influences. He performs live with a four-piece band, and has headlined sold-out tours on several continents, in addition to playing at both jazz and electronic festivals. After developing his sound and honing his abilities throughout the 2010s, Anomalie released two Métropole EPs, then collaborated with Chromeo on the 2020 EP Bend the Rules. Galerie, his 2022 full-length debut, featured guests like Masego and Shad, and the brief, Christmas-themed Holidays appeared in 2023. Born and raised in Montreal, Nicolas Dupuis was formally trained in both jazz and classical piano. As Anomalie, he started posting videos of jam sessions to his YouTube channel before he began officially releasing music. Following a few singles, including the bombastic glitch-hop track “Odyssée,” the EP Métropole appeared in 2017, followed by “No Way” and the Rob Araujo collaboration “Hang Glide.” Métropole Part II was issued in 2018, and Anomalie teamed up with Gramatik, Wacka Flocka Flame, and Chrishira Perrier for the 2019 single “Requiem for Peace.” Bend the Rules, a three-song EP with Chromeo, appeared in 2020, followed by a deluxe edition with several remixes. Anomalie signed to Nettwerk and released the full-length debut Galerie in 2022, perfecting the smooth, funky elements of his sound while still crafting sophisticated arrangements. The set included guest appearances by Shad, Masego, India Carney, Mael, and others. Anomalie interpreted Christmas standards on the 2023 release Holidays. ~ Paul Simpson
