À propos de cet artiste

A Belgian singer, songwriter, and producer with a playfully breathy singing delivery, Angèle approaches contemporary dance-pop with a classic French pop bent. She went all the way to number one in France and Belgium with her debut album, 2018′s Brol, then topped both countries’ singles charts with 2021′s “Fever,” a duet with Dua Lipa. That year, she also made her film debut with a cameo in the musical film Annette before releasing her second full-length, Nonante-cinq.
The daughter of actress Laurence Bibot and singer/songwriter, composer, and filmmaker Serge Van Laeken — better known as Marka — Angèle Joséphine Aimée Van Laeken was born in Brussels in 1995. Her older brother is charting hip-hop artist Roméo Elvis. With the encouragement of her father, Angèle started on the piano at an early age. After finishing high school, she attended Jazz Studio Antwerp before leaving to tour as pianist in her father’s band.
Angèle launched her solo career both on social media and in Brussels cafés. In 2017, her video cover of Dick Annegarn’s “Bruxelles” led to a support slot on tour with Ibeyi and rapper Damso. That year, her first single, “La Loi de Murphy,” was met with millions of plays online. With her star rising in 2018, she made her Parisian live debut, was featured on Damso’s album Lithopédion, and in October delivered her debut album, Brol. It was released the same day as a duet with her brother called “Tout Oublier,” which went to number three in France and number six in Belgium. Brol topped the album charts in both countries.
Now in demand for TV appearances, collaborations, and endorsements (including becoming ambassador for a major French fashion house), Angèle had another big hit with “Balance Ton Quoi” in 2019. She returned to the top of the song charts a year later with the bilingual Dua Lipa collaboration “Fever.” After appearing on episodes of the TV comedy La Flamme, she made her big-screen debut with a small role in the Leos Carax-Sparks musical Annette in mid-2021. Led by “Bruxelles Je T’aime,” Angèle’s sophomore long-player, Nonante-cinq, saw release in December 2021 and reached the Top Ten in Belgium, France, and Switzerland. The stand-alone single “Amour, Haine et Danger” appeared the following year. ~ Marcy Donelson
