Rapper 2KBABY makes reflective, vulnerable songs about the struggles and hardships he’s faced growing up in Louisville, Kentucky. His sparse, guitar-driven freestyle “Old Streets” became a viral hit in 2019, leading to a deal with Warner Bros. His debut EP, Pregame Rituals, appeared early the next year, followed by the two-track 2K Stimulus and full-length First Quarter in 2021. He continued releasing tracks, including 2023′s “Don’t Love Me Now” featuring charlieonnafriday.
Originally known as Lil Sage, the MC began uploading tracks in 2017, including collaborations with friends like BBlasian and Lil Zayo. A single and video titled “Like This,” sporting more of an emo influence than his earliest songs, made the rounds in 2019, but “Old Streets,” originally recorded as a freestyle for online channel SayCheeseTV, ended up going viral. Warner Bros. signed the young artist and gave the track an official single and video release. Two more singles, “Dreaming” and “Betta,” followed later that year in advance of 2KBABY’s debut EP, Pregame Rituals, which Warner released in early 2020. In January 2021 he issued the 2K Stimulus, featuring the tracks “Rounds” and “2Kizzy Flow.” Later that year, he released the full-length project First Quarter, which included the singles “Luigi” (featuring Chief Keef) and “Zack & Cody” (featuring DDG). Singles like “Rain” and “Stand Love” appeared in 2022, followed by “Don’t Love Me Now” (featuring charlieonnafriday) in 2023. ~ Paul Simpson
